We groom schnauzers! If you have purchased a puppy from us, we are delighted to groom your dog for you on a regular basis. It gives us a chance to see our puppies as they are growing and see how they turned out. We currently have clients who drive from Vancouver, Burnaby, Chilliwack, Mission, Maple Ridge and Langley to bring their dogs to us for grooming. Dogs remember us and generally look forward to the visit and a chance to play with other schnauzers. Appointments: To make a grooming appointment, please call Catherine at 604-835-0160 or email her at schnauzergal@gmail.com. We groom Mon-Sat between 9 am and 4 pm. As we are a small operation, you will generally be able to schedule an appointment with a few days. If we have puppies due that week, some flexibility may be required if pups decide to arrive on the day of your appointment. NOTE: Our grooming is done in the same room where our puppies are born. Grooming is not done when we have moms in labor or brand new puppies in the house. It is VERY IMPORTANT that your dog be up-to-date on shots and free of fleas when coming for grooming due to the presence of young puppies that haven't been innoculated. |

Learn to groom your own schnauzer! Many people ask if it's hard to learn to groom a schnauzer. No...it isn't. You must be comfortable and calm and not afraid to make a mistake. I do recommend that you take your puppy to a confident groomer until it has learned to stand properly on the grooming table. Once your puppy is 8-10 months of age and has been groomed several times by someone who knows what they are doing, it will be much easier for you to take over. Don't be nervous. Your dog will know it and won't make it easy for you. Any mistakes you make will grow out quickly so don't be afraid to give it a try. We are happy to have you stay and watch your dog being groomed. If you would like to have some hands-on practice grooming your dog under our supervision, you are welcome to give it a try. Schnauzer Tips |
Tip #5 - Does your dog run away when you bring out the comb or nail clippers? Try keeping these objects near your favorite chair or lounging spot where you regularly cuddle your dog. When they are relaxed in your lap, it's a great chance to comb out legs or beards or clip the nails on a paw or two. Remember to only do a little at a time or you will soon lose your lap warmer! By having the comb and clippers at hand, it is easier for you to groom when you and your dog are relaxing. It takes the stress out of grooming and makes it more fun for both of you. |
Tip #6 - Does your dog's coat tangle easily? Schnauzer coats vary in texture and consequently some are very resistent to tangles and others need almost daily combing to remain tangle free. Try adding 1/2 tsp flaxseed oil to the food per 10 lbs of dog weight. After 3-4 weeks, you will notice that your dog's coat becomes more resistent to mats, and gets glossier and softer. Flaxseed oil is available in most health food stores. |
Tip #7 - Keep fleas at bay Fleas hate garlic. If your dog gets a little garlic mixed in with his food a couple times a week, the fleas won't come calling. The garlic will be excreted through the pores and fleas will stay away.

EAR TAPING Sometimes, despite the fact that a puppy's parents have beautiful natural ears, a puppy will display a tendency to have ears that want to stand straight up. Sometimes it's one ear...sometimes it's both ears. Puppy ears are soft tissue until they are 5-6 months old. At that point the soft tissue hardens and your dogs ears will stay either naturally folded or stand upright. If you want to help train your puppy's ears to fold nicely, refer to the following handout on ear taping.
